Safwat Marzouk, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary

Safwat has pastored as an ordained minister of the Presbyterian church in Alexandria, Egypt, while finishing his doctoral studies in Jersey City. Safwat is the author of Egypt as a Monster in the Book of Ezekiel and his recent book Intercultural Church: A Biblical Vision in the Age of Migration.

This year's Edmund Janzen Lectureship is focused on the book of Genesis. Marzouk will help us consider the theme of Migration, Conflict and Reconciliation in the Joseph story and its relevance to both migrants and the racial conflict in the United States. We will be asked to consider the implications of this view and how we might live into this vision of God's kingdom and how God might be speaking to us through Exodus.

The Edmund Janzen Lectureship in Biblical Studies promotes careful scholarship in biblical interpretation as well as the witness of the Christian church. The lectureship is made possible through an endowment established in 2005 to honor the 35 years Edmund Janzen served Fresno Pacific University as president and faculty member.

This event is free and open to the public.
