Stephen Varvis, Ph.D., is a professor of history at FPU who has transported generations of students through history from the comfort of his classroom—now he’s taking that knowledge on the road now he’s taking that knowledge on the road and inviting others along.
There is still room in the “500th Anniversary Reformation Tour” sponsored by Fresno Pacific University and welcome to all friends—and friends of friends—of FPU. From June 14-29, 2017, Varvis and wife Teri will lead the group through the Netherlands (mostly near Amsterdam), spend a week in Germany, then on to Strasbourg in France and Zurich and Geneva in Switzerland.
Participants will visit sites associated with Martin Luther, credited with starting the European Christian Reformation, which spawned the Protestant, Reformed and Anabaptist movements. Special events will include time with local guides from these traditions, as well as other historical and cultural destinations such as Berlin Wall, Holocaust sites, places where J.S. Bach conducted and performed, the Dietrich Bonhoeffer museum and the tulip fields and canals of Holland.
“I am looking forward to traveling with friends through some of the most beautiful and interesting places in Europe, and experiencing some of those remarkable serendipitous events that make these kinds of trips special and memorable,” Steve Varvis said.
