Fresno Area Teens Change Their World, March 2-3

Several hundred young people from the Fresno-Clovis area will do without to bring hunger and poverty throughout the world home Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3 as part of an event hosted by Fresno Pacific University. They will be part of the annual World Vision 30-Hour Famine, a national event involving thousands of students.

Participants ask family, friends and neighbors to sponsor them with pledges as they go without food for 30 hours to identify with those who are hungry. Through videos, games, special event and local community service projects, students learn about hunger and what they can do to help others.

As part of 30-Hour Famine, participants will gather at FPU Friday evening and Saturday morning for challenging and inspiring sessions on world hunger and poverty. On Saturday afternoon, over 300 teens will spread out into the community to do service projects. These projects will include food drives, cleaning up neighborhoods and individual homes, service in local agencies, visits to the elderly and prayer walks.

Anyone interested in participating in the 30-Hour Famine activities can contact Tim Neufeld, biblical and religious studies faculty, at 453-2093. For more information on World Vision call 1-800-7-FAMINE or see www.30hourfamine.org.

Last year more than 600,000 young people in the United States raised over $9 million through the World Vision 30-Hour Famine. Famine events around the world involved 1.2 million participants in 21 countries who collectively raised more than $22 million for World Vision's hunger and poverty-fighting programs.

World Vision is the largest privately funded international nonprofit Christian relief and development organization in the world. Fresno Pacific University has teamed with the Fresno Area Network of church youth leaders to be a resource for local youth groups, promote unity across denominations in local churches, create awareness of global hunger issues and raise funds for the fight against hunger.
