A mixture of sacred and secular music in a variety of styles will be offered at the next concert by the San Joaquin Chorale.
"Past and Present" is the title of the performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in First Congregational Church, Fresno. Admission is $6 for general audiences and $3 for seniors and students. Call 453-2267 for more information.
The program opens with "Alle, psallite-Alleluya," a Franconian composition from 1250. Other selections include "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" by Thomas Weelkes, "Flanders Fields" by Paul Aitken, "Nations Shall Learn War No More" arranged by Stephen Richards, "The Man in the Moon," by Raymond Liebau and the traditional "Irish Blessing" arranged by Bradley Nelson.
Roy Klassen, music faculty at Fresno Pacific University, conducts the 30-voice choir and Kevin Memley serves as accompanist. Formed in 1994 by Klassen, holder of a doctorate in music, the chorale (formerly the Fresno Pacific Chorale) is made up of trained adult musicians from throughout the valley.
