The Fresno Pacific University Concert Choir joined the Masterwork Festival Chorus in a grand choral festival in New York City’s Carnegie Hall on Monday, June 11, 2018.

The chorus performed excerpts from Haydn’s Creation under guest conductor Bruce Chamberlain. The choir is conducted by Bethany Lynn Alvey, D.M.A., assistant professor of music and director of choral activities. Matthew Horton is the accompanist.

Other ensembles participating in the Masterwork Festival Chorus included:

  • Hopewell Valley Chorus, Hopewell, NJ

  • New Jersey City University Chamber Singers, Jersey City, NJ

  • Resound Ensemble First Lutheran Palo Alto, San Francisco, CA

  • University of South Florida Chamber and Collegiate Singers, Tampa, FL

The Concert Choir departed San Francisco June 8 and arrived in the Big Apple at 8:05 a.m. Rehearsals alternated with free time June 9-10, including the chance to attend the The Lion King on Broadway.

The Carnegie Hall concert included two other mass choirs, each featuring an acclaimed choral composer/conductor—National Festival Chorus with Z. Randall Stroope, and a second Masterwork Festival Chorus, performing Jubilate, directed by Henry Leck. A post-concert reception was held at Planet Hollywood on Times Square. The choir returned to California June 12.

To pay for the tour, Concert Choir members spent the 2017-2018 academic year involved in various fund-raisers and received generous donation from McDonald’s Corporation.
