Fresno Pacific University has been honored with a $15,000 scholarship from the Consulate of Mexico in Fresno.

The gift—FPU’s first—is part of a $35,000 investment in education by the consulate to support students in the Valley. FPU received the largest award, with the University of California, Merced; California State University, Fresno; and Proteus, Inc., also getting grants. Dina Gonzales-Piña, assistant dean of multicultural ministries, and Maribel Viveros, director of institutional research, wrote the proposal requesting matching funds for FPU students who are Mexican citizens and Samaritan Scholars enrolled as traditional undergraduates.

The Consulate of Mexico will host a scholarship ceremony at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, at its offices at 7435 N. Ingram, Fresno. Guests will include representatives of the schools.
