  1. When identifying a school of interest, make sure to investigate who accredited the institution and when.
  2. If the college has regional accreditation, credits earned have a greater chance of transferring to a different region.
  3. Most Online schools fall into the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) accreditation, for which credits are is less commonly accepted. However, employers view them on equal terms.
  4. Students interested in a specific program at a college or university such as medical, law, or education programs, should check its accreditation level and status as well. If a student obtains their education from a program that lacks the proper credentials, finding a job after graduation could prove more difficult.
