Opportunity

Liberal Studies is one of the largest traditional undergraduate majors on our main campus, with a long-standing reputation for excellence in preparing students for teaching professions and a wide range of other careers. This Program Director position will allow an experienced educator to take up this legacy and carry it forward into the future.   

Role

  • Oversee the Liberal Studies program;
  • Teach the foundational and capstone courses;
  • Advise students;
  • Partner with other undergraduate programs and local elementary schools to provide the best possible curriculum for our students;
  • Pursue an active scholarly agenda;
  • Train future teachers and servant leaders in a Christian Liberal Arts context;
  • Work with a diverse student population;
  • Foster and strengthen academic and professional collaboration with FPU’s School of Education.

Qualifications

Required

  • Earned terminal degree in Education or related field of study (ABD candidates will be considered);
  • Record or promise of scholarly achievement;
  • Mentor and advise Liberal Studies majors (as well as general education students);
  • Experience or aptitude for program administration, including ongoing program assessment and evaluation, and advising students;
  • Experience or aptitude for outstanding college-level teaching;
  • Experience or aptitude for developing partnerships in the Fresno-area K-12 community;
  • Aptitude for interdisciplinary collaborations with the wide range of faculty who teach courses in the major;
  • Knowledge of technology / learning-management systems;
  • Ability to provide positive leadership and restorative discipline for students;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Commitment to the integration of faith, life, and learning;
  • Familiarity with Latino/a communities, as well as the ethnic and socio-economic diversity of the Central Valley;
  • Agreement with the mission of the university and ability to effectively communicate its values;
  • Ability to work with students, staff and faculty in a collegial environment;
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the university’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning, and involvement in a local church.

Preferred

  • K-12 teaching and/or administrative experience;
  • Understanding of California state standards and policies that affect K-12 teachers.

Compensation

Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Full-time benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA-CREF), Section 125 options.
