Stephen Varvis, Ph.D., has worked in a variety of roles at Fresno Pacific University. Starting as business manager in 1985, he has been a history professor, undergraduate dean, director of civic relations in the Advancement Office and the university’s first vice president of enrollment management. In his present role as provost/senior vice president, Varvis is chief academic officer and oversees day-to-day administrative operations of the main campus and four regional campuses, coordinating with deans and other leaders. In all he does, Varvis encourages and celebrates the accomplishments of faculty and students. His academic interests include medieval and early modern intellectual and world history, the history of political thought and business ethics. He received his bachelor of arts from California State University, Fresno, and his doctorate from Claremont Graduate University.
