Scholarships & Auditions
Music performances require sacrifice--of time, talent and energy--but reward students with discipline and experience that are invaluable in future careers, in music and other fields. Fresno Pacific recognizes the talent and commitment required of performances, and rewards scholarships for participation.
Auditions should be completed, either in person or by tape (if necessary) as soon as possible the year preceding your attendance at FPU. For more information, contact the Music Office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 559-453-2267.
Your audition should consist of two pieces representing two separate musical periods (e.g. Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th/21st Century) or two styles (e.g. one slower and more melodic, and one faster and more technical). You will be asked to play some major scales (two octaves when applicable) and demonstrate tonguing and slurring (when applicable to your instrument).
Your audition should consist of a song that shows off your voice. You will also be asked to listen to and sing back five-note melodies and sight read the melody line of a song or hymn. Warm-up style exercises will test your vocal range.
Your audition should consist of two pieces of a contrasting nature, maximum of seven minutes of music.
Private music lessons are strongly encouraged in the preparation for college, for auditioning and as a general foundation in any music study.
