Conference reaches out to social workers, educators and more

“Justice and Peace in the City: Transforming Lives in Community” is the name of a professional development conference co-sponsored by the California Chapter of the National Association of Christians in Social Work Conference and the Fresno Pacific University Social Work Department.

The public is welcome to the conference, which will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, in Steinert Campus Center on the main FPU campus, 1717 S. Chestnut Ave., Fresno. Events are designed to engage educators, social workers, community leaders, public and non-profit agencies, students and citizens who hope to make the world a better place.

The keynote speaker will be Randy White, D. Min., executive director of the Center for Community Transformation at Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary. White is an author and activist who has been deeply involved in Christian community development in Fresno and beyond. There will also be nine breakout sessions highlighting new ways to meet the needs of communities and community members.

Other participants from public, private and educational agencies range from Addie Carr, M.S.W, Neighborhood Industries, and Natalie Bolin, M.S.W., Tulare County Department of Social Services, to Sergio Cortez, No More Slumlords, and Darren Person, M.S.W., Fresno Unified School District Mentoring Program.
