One-on-one tutoring is available to students for writing assignments across all disciplines, as well as for help with general education subjects. The duration of the sessions could go from 30 to 60 minutes long and are available by appointment and through the drop-in service. There are two ways to make appointments with us: via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at 559-453-5585.
Our writing tutors will work with students as many times as needed in all stages of the writing process. Beyond helping students write better papers, our goal is to guide them become better writers. Consequently, our approach is to involve students in the process of developing, organizing and clarifying their writing. In addition, we will provide help with grammatical and spelling issues to ESL students only, but we do not provide proofreading services.
General Education Subjects
Our subject tutors emphasize collaborative methods of learning to help students more effectively process and comprehend class lectures, activities and homework assignments. It is our goal to provide tutoring for all regularly scheduled, general education subjects, such as math, chemistry and biology. If we are not providing a tutor for a particular subject, students are encouraged to inquire about the possibility of receiving such support. Please take note, however, that tutoring is provided in response to the general needs of the student population.
All the tutors are scheduled at different times throughout our hours of operations. Please check with the current semester’s scheduling for specific times.
Many students like studying at our center because we are not as quiet as the library and not as loud as Charlotte's cafe, and our coffee is free. Also, as a bonus, tutors will generally be available to students should problems with homework arise.
Study hall is available whenever we are open. If you are attending the study hall at the request of your coach please sign a study hall agreement form which you can get at the front desk.
Academic coaching provides students with a one-on-one, ongoing relationship through which guidance, accountability, feedback and encouragement are offered to help achieve higher levels of academic performance.
As students and academic coaches meet throughout the semester, students learn to identify their academic strengths and weaknesses and what learning styles and methods best enable them to succeed. Academic coaches often address skills such as time management, effective notetaking, test-taking strategies, active reading and managing the writing process.
To be used at the discretion of each professor, we facilitate a space and supervision for individual students to take exams who are not able to take them during the regularly scheduled time. Limited space and time make it advisable to request an appointment in advance. For testing accommodations please contact the office of Disability, Access, and Education at 559-453-7130.
We also offer Exam Proctoring for non-FPU students. Exam Proctoring fees per exam are $50. For appointments you need to contact the ASC front desk for additional information.
