It’s a calling to serve, lead and meet critical healthcare needs in our communities. In the video below, current MSN students Cesar Ramirez Luna and Ka Lee-Her share their personal journeys through Fresno Pacific University’s MSN program.
As working nurses, caregivers and students, Cesar and Ka speak candidly about why they chose FPU, the challenges of balancing life and school, and the unwavering support they’ve found in faculty who truly understand the realities of nursing. Their stories highlight what makes the MSN program at FPU distinctive: a Christ-centered foundation, faculty who walk alongside students and a shared commitment to preparing compassionate, capable nurse practitioners ready to serve where they are needed most.
Cesar:
My name is Cesar Ramirez Luna. I'm a registered nurse, a bachelor's degree. I've been a nurse for four years, and I'm currently in the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program.
Ka:
Hi, my name is Ka. I'm an emergency nurse here in the Central Valley. I'm a mom, and I'm a full-time student now.
Cesar:
I decided to get my master's because there's so many opportunities for family nurse practitioners as well as being an instructor. There's a lot of patients that don't have primary care or preventative care. And I think as nurse practitioners, we fill in that gap for them. A highlight of the program has been orientation. The director was here, and faculty were sharing stories about the difficulties they have gone through which just calmed me and reassured me that I'm at the right place, and that I can accomplish this program.
Ka:
My advice for anyone who's considered the FNP program at Fresno Pacific would be just do it. It's going to be hard. I'm a full-time mom, a full-time employee and I'm doing it. And I feel like I can do it because the faculty, they're going to be there to help me all the way.
Cesar:
I chose FPU because a lot of my friends have gone through it. They've had a great experience. They recommended it to me. Also, because of its Christian values. They align with my values which just makes me feel like I should be here.
Ka:
I think what's really unique about the program is that the instructors, they're actually working, too. So they understand how busy it can get. They understand the struggle you're going through.
Cesar:
They emphasize that they want you to succeed, and that they themselves have gone through some of the challenges that they are faced with. Not just being a nurse but also being a student now.
