Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is an MOU?

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is a formal agreement between FPU and an external partner that outlines shared intentions and expectations for collaboration. MOUs do not replace academic policies, but they create structure and clarity for how partners work together—whether that means easing transfer pathways, clarifying admission and advising processes or supporting specific populations of students.

Benefits for Students and Partners

Depending on the terms of the agreement, MOUs may include benefits such as:

  • A defined admissions or transfer pathway for students completing specific coursework or credentials
  • Guidelines for credit recognition or articulation
  • Enhanced academic advising and transition support
  • Collaborative programming and outreach activities
  • Support for professional development or continuing education

MOUs strengthen the relationship between FPU and our community, ensuring students have access to meaningful opportunities that align with their academic and career goals.

What is required from students under a partnership?

Requirements vary by agreement–please check your specific agreement for details. Some partnerships may outline academic performance expectations, completion of specific coursework or admissions milestones.

How do students take advantage of these agreements?

Eligible students should contact their FPU admissions counselor, or a designated partner liaison to learn the specific steps to access the benefits in a given MOU.

Are financial benefits guaranteed under all MOUs?

Not all MOUs include financial benefits. Any scholarship or aid component will be clearly specified in the terms of that particular agreement.

Questions?

Students, family members and partner representatives with questions about MOUs should reach out to FPU Office of Admission for specific guidance and next steps.
